Capoeira Arts Camp
Capoeira Arts Camp is a chance for young people (ages 5 to 11 years) to learn about and deepen their relationship to the Afro-Brazilian martial and ritual art form of Capoeira. We will focus on coordination, stamina, musicality, balance, working together, playfulness, and creativity. Your teachers will be Mestre Tico, the founder of Ilê Axé Capoeira, a world-class capoeirista, and Mestre Marreta, co-founder of Berkeley Capoeira Collective, a teacher of experiential anatomy and functional movement. The art class will be with Nichole Talbott (Manga Rosa) the founder of ASE ARTS.
SCHEDULE:
9am -11am with Nuria Bowart (Mestra Marreta) will be made up of games for coordination and range of motion training, mindfulness and attention practices as well as body percussion.
11am-11:15am walk to park
11:15am-12:00pm lunch at park
12pm-12:15pm walk back
12:15 - 2:15pm with Nathaniel Morais (Mestre Tico) the mid-day will be Capoeira and Maculele: a rhythmic stick fighting dance
2:15pm - 4pm with Nichole Talbott (Asé Arts) artmaking Colors of Brazil: From Ancestral Traditions to Contemporary Expression
